To use LDAP to search for names in the directory
- Open Windows Mail and begin composing a new email message. There are two ways you can use the LDAP directory. You can either type a name into the To: field and search for the correct email address from there, or you can search for the name from the LDAP directory.
- To validate the email address for a name you have typed into the To: field, enter the last name and click the Check Names button on the toolbar. If there are multiple entries, you will see a dialog box from which you can select the specific name you are looking for.
- Alternatively, to search directly in the LDAP directory for an email address (instead of typing the name into the To: field):
- Click the To... button in the message window.
- Click Find: next to the Type name or the Select from List: field.
- Select ldap.mit.edu in the Look in: dropdown menu.
- Select the People tab.
- Enter the last name of the person you're looking for in the Name field, then click the Find Now button .
- Select the email address from the list of names and click the To: button.
- Click OK and the name will appear in the email message you are composing.
- Click the To... button in the message window.
