Tips for working with Warehouse data in Tableau

  1. Add fact tables first. By default, Tableau will try to connect subsequent tables to this table.
  2. To speed up queries and layouts, consider using custom SQL to limit which columns and what data Tableau pulls in.
    • Example: To connect Balances with Time_Month where all you need is Fiscal Year, don't bring in the Time Month table. Instead, choose Use Custom SQL and enter SELECT DISTINCT FISCAL_YEAR FROM TIME_MONTH.
