Scroll bars not displayed for EHS Training Needs Assessment in some Safari installations

Some Mac OS 10.7 and 10.8 users accessing the MIT Learning Center via Safari may encounter difficulties in navigating through the Environmental Health and Safety Training Needs Assessment. In some installations of Safari 6.0.3 and higher, scroll bars are not displayed in the EHS Trainings Needs Assessment popup window. Choose from the options detailed below to resolve the issue.

Option one: Set scroll bars to be displayed Always

Configure your Macintosh to always display scroll bars:

  1. Follow the menu path Apple >> System Preferences.
  2. Select General
  3. In the section for scroll bars, select Always.

Option two: Use keyboard commands to scroll as needed

  1. Click into the EHS Training Needs Assessment window.
  2. Hold the Option key and use the up and down or left and right arrows to navigate.

Option three: Use Mozilla Firefox

  • You will need to install certificates separately for Firefox.
  • Navigate, in Firefox, to http://ca.mit.edu.
  • In Step III, Final Steps, make sure to select the link for MIT Certificate Authority.
    • Place a check for Trust this CA to identify websites. Then click OK.
