Buildings on campus are in the process of transitioning to the Next Generation of MITnet (see Martin Schmidt’s announcement from last April). As part of this transition, your device(s) will need to be reconfigured, through network settings, to use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). Please reconfigure these device(s) at your earliest convenience to avoid connectivity issues. If your department, lab, or center has its own IT support staff, you may want to reach out to them for assistance and an IS&T technician will be happy to coordinate with them.

In preparation for the transition, please do the following:

1. Reply to this email if any of the device(s) listed need a public IP address.
Note that devices on the private network that are assigned a hostname through permanent DHCP reservation can be remotely accessed by first connecting to the MIT VPN.

2. Please switch each device's network configuration to use DHCP to avoid any disruption in internet connectivity.
If you require assistance, reply to this email and an IS&T technician will contact you. If you would like an IS&T technician to visit your location to assist, please reply with times when you would be available.

If you have a more complex configuration that is not addressed here, please reply and an IS&T technician will work with you.

If we do not receive a response from you and we see that a listed device is still using a static IP address, we may visit the location associated with the device to assist with the configuration changes. Should we need to visit, we will identify ourselves as a member of IS&T, and state that the purpose of our visit is to assist with the reconfiguration of your device(s) to DHCP.

If you have any concerns about the impact of switching your device(s) to this configuration, please reply to this email, and an IS&T technician will help to address your concerns.
