Prepping for Version Cutover
In advance of Cutover Date:
Back-Ups
Make sure schedules are set up (Rich’s template includes standard schedules but any server side database schedules will need to be manually set up in advance using a back-up copy of the file in question.)
Moving Weekly, Quarterly, Yearly, and Saved Back-ups, Removed and .Dot Folders -
Move backups other than hourlies in advance of moving production [with pre-mounting drives for backups using the new name in play at that time
Sample temp. server name - (get from Rich)
Mounting Drives
You can do the mounting from either side but best done from old machine so that you don’t have to unmount after fact
Open >> File Explorer>>This PC (left side menu) >>Upper This computer Tab is visible and Map Network drive button is available on toolbar
\\prd-r1\c$ pre-cutover work - for moving back ups
\\dcad-fmp-prod-1\c$ for moving production files
Scheduling:
propose time with Rich
Confirm with power users
Confirm time with Rich
Plan for a couple of hours downtime for Prod 1
At Cutover Time - connect with Rich via Slack
(but also track the scheduled work in an RT Thread)
Renaming Hosts - Rich
@ cutover time requires Rich manage 2 pieces of re-naming work first so coordination must be done closely with him: host name and DNS switch so that the new machine has the new name
This work could also take about an hour
Checking on Consoles and Remoting to both machines with their new names
Before signing off with Rich, make sure to check that you can Remote onto both servers and see consoles; open Files with FM Pro
Stopping Schedules and Closing Files - In Console - Me
Stopping all back-up schedules on old machine
Stop files
Move data
Mounting Drive
You can do the mounting from either side but best done from old machine so that you don’t have to unmount after fact
Open >> File Explorer>>This PC (left side menu) >>Upper This computer Tab is visible and Map Network drive button is available on toolbar
\\dcad-fmp-test-1\c$
This will be slow (2 hours for production files)
Note - if you leave your computer, your computer may go to sleep and this can impact the process
Once production files are moved, you are good to go (you can send a message at that point to users that it is back up and to report any potential issues.)
No need to worry about dailies or hourly back ups. Those will be available on old server for enough time that
Who needs to get cutover:
RD - This just has one file. First ask Becky about doing this.
DUE - this has a lot of files on this. Start this before Stu leaves. Clients will need to be at least on FM14 ( no pro 13s) Kiosks would have to get relaunched.
UAAP - this has some unique things. ALways check to see what ODBC drivers are on a server
Servers that should be managed better:
VPF - this is a locally managed server and it is 12 with MDS connections. We don’t have OS nor Console access and we don’t know what else they are hosting. Confusing who to deal with. VPF has their own BA type folks.
