MITvoip Telephone - Unity Voice Mail Functions

Introduction

The Unity voice mail system allows you to be informed of new voice mail messages via your telephone, email and the web. This guide shows you how to:

  • Set up your account via the telephone
  • Access your account via the web
  • Retrieve your messages from phone, email or the web

Set Up Your Voice Mail (First Time Login)

The following instructions take you through the process for setting up your voice mail account. Please follow these instructions carefully before dialing into your voice mailbox because the Unity system will lock you out after three unsuccessful login attempts.

Your Unity ID is your ten digit MIT telephone number.

Setting Up Your Mailbox

After dialing into your mailbox, follow the pre-recorded system instructions to:

  • record your name
  • record a greeting

Be sure to complete each procedure before hanging up, or your changes will not be saved. To start over, dial into the system again and follow the prompts.

After initial setup, you can go back and change your setup information at any time by following the instructions above.

Dial-in from Your desk phone

To dial into your mailbox from your work phone:

  1. Dial 3-0000
  2. When prompted enter your PIN and press #
  3. Follow the prompts to record your name and record your greeting

Dial-in from an outside number

  1. Call the Unity voice mail access number at 617-253-0000
  2. When you hear the main greeting, press *
  3. When prompted for your ID enter your ten-digit MIT telephone number and press #
  4. When prompted enter your PIN and press #

Accessing Your Account via the Web

Once you have set up your voice mail account via the telephone, you can use the web interface to listen to your messages or set up how you will be notified to receive new voice mail messages.

Open the Unity Web inbox

  1. Go to https://sylantro.mit.edu
  2. Ensure the phone number is listed within the Account pull down menu and click the Login button
  3. Select the Voice Mail Inbox button
  4. Two Tabs appear:
    • Messages: allows you to listen messages over your computer of via your phone
    • Settings: allows you to set up and change your voice mail settings including email options and greetings

Settings

The web interface will allow you to change personal settings. By clicking on Settings at the top of the page, you will be able to edit personal preferences for that account, record your name and listen to greetings, add contacts, and create private lists.

Retrieving Messages by Phone

  1. Dial 3-0000
  2. When prompted for your PIN enter it and press #
    Result: Unity will present you with your voice mail options

If you are calling from an off-campus phone number:

  1. Call the Unity voice mail access number: 617-253-0000
  2. When you hear the main greeting, press *
  3. When prompted for your ID, enter your ten-digit telephone number and press #
  4. When prompted for your PIN, enter it and press #
    Result: Unity will present you with your voice mail options

Retrieving Your Messages via the Web Inbox

To hear and delete messages from within the online web inbox:

  1. Navigate to https://sylantro.mit.edu
  2. Select your phone number and click the Login button
  3. Click on Voice Mail settings
  4. Click the Play button to the right of the message
    Result: The message will play through your computer speakers.

To listen via your phone:

  1. Click the Phone button on the bottom right of your screen
  2. Type your phone number in the space provided
    Result: The system will then call your phone and you will be able to listen to the messages privately through the handset.

Retrieving Your Messages via the Email

You may listen to your messages directly within your email application Inbox.

  1. Open the email message for the voice mail
  2. Click the voicemail.wav link
    Result: The message will play through your computer speakers.

Prompts and Commands

Use these keys at any time:
* = Cancel or Backup
0 = Help

Use these keys while in the Main Menu:
1 = Hear new messages
3 = Review old messages
4 = Send a message
9 = Change setup options
9-1-1 = Change greetings
9-1-2 = Turn on/off alternate greeting
9-2-3 = Choose full or brief menus
9-3-1 = Change Unity PIN
9-3-2 = Change recorded name
0 = Help

Use these keys while listening to a message:
1 = Repeat message
2 = Rewind (5 seconds)
3 = Fast-Forward (5 seconds)
4 = Slow message down
#4 = Pause/Resume
5 = Skip and play message properties
6 = Speed message up
#6 = Skip and mark as new message
7 = Delete message
8 = Skip and reply to subscriber
#82 = Skip and reply to all subscribers
#84 = Skip and call subscriber
#86 = Skip and forward message
9 = Save message
# = Fast-forward to end of message
## = Skip and save as is
0 = Help

Use these keys after listening to a message:
1 = Repeat message
2 = Rewind (5 seconds)
3 = Mark as new message
42 = Reply to all
44 = Call the subscriber
5 = Play message properties
6 = Forward message
7 = Delete message
8 = Reply
9 = Save message
# = Save as is
0 = Help
