MITvoip Account Management

On this page:

Overview

You must be an owner or administrator of the account you want to modify. With the Account Management tool, you can:

  • Grant an employee ownership to an account.
  • Delete an employee's ownership from an account.
  • Change the Display Name when one MITvoip user is calling another MITvoip user (similar to caller ID).
  • View or change voice mail and/or email options.
  • Update the default location of a phone that has been moved to a new building or room

Access Account Management

  1. To manage Accounts, go to SIP Account Management and click on Administer next to your account.
Result: The SIP Settings page opens.

View or Change Account Owners or Administrators

  • An account administrator can change account settings (e.g., location, display name) and modify voice mail settings.
  • An account owner has the same privileges as an account administrator, and can also access the user web interface.
  • Typically, a user is an account and device owner for his/her phone(s) and account(s). Usually there are designated individuals within a Department, Lab, or Center (DLC) who are also account administrators and device owners and manage their DLC's telephone services.
  1. Access the Account Management page and click on Administer next to your account.
  2. In the Account owners and administrators section, do one of the following:
    • To view the current account owners or administrators, open the View assigned owners or administrators pull-down list.
    • To add an owner or administrator, click on the Add a new owner or Add a new administrator button and enter the new MIT Kerberos account ID.
    • To delete an owner or administrator, click on the Delete an owner or Delete an administrator button and select the MIT Kerberos account ID from the pull-down list.
Note: If you delete your own Kerberos ID from the list of account owners or administrators, you will no longer be able to access the management tools for this account.
  3. If you have added or deleted any owners, click the Update Settings button at the bottom of the screen.
Result: An "Update successful" appears at the top of the screen.

Change Location or Display Name

  • The default location is used for routing and reporting caller location of emergency calls. However, locations in the MIT People Directory take precedence over the default location. Locations of individuals in the People Directory are updated by them in the Self-Service section of Atlas. For phones that are not associated with individual people it is important that the default location be updated on the Account Management page. For more information, see Update a Location.
  • Changing a Display Name changes how the name appears when calling another MITvoip phone (similar to caller ID).
  1. Access the Account Management page and click on Administer next to your account.
  2. In the User Information section:
    • to change the account's default location, enter the new building and room number in the Primary location box. Use valid MIT building numbers, followed by a "-" and the room number - eg. E19-741.
    • to change the display name, enter a new name in the Display Name box.
  3. Click the Update Settings button at the bottom of the screen.
Result: "Update successful" appears at the top of the screen.

View or Change Voice Mail and Email Options

  1. Access the Account Management page and click on - (Administer) next to your account.
  2. In the voice mail section you can do one of the following:
    • Change the Sylantro (Web Interface) email address.
    • Change the Unity voice mail to email address. This is for the voice mail as an email option.
    • Change the voice mail PIN.
    • Enable or disable sending calls to voicemail
    • Change the Unity account type
      • disabled - does not send calls to voicemail
      • store on server - saves messages on the voicemail server for retrieval by phone
      • forward voicemail to email
  1. If you have made any changes, click Update Settings button at the bottom of the screen.
Result: "Update successful" appears at the top of the screen.
