Get Connected to MITNET - Connecting Mac OS X 10.9 and later

Connect Via Ethernet and a Static IP Address

  1. Connect your computer to your assigned network drop using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open System Preferences, either from the Dock or the Apple menu > System Preferences....

  3. When the System Preferences window appears, click on the Network icon.

    Result: The Network configuration window appears, displaying the status of the active ports.
  1. In the left-hand pane, choose Ethernet.
  2. Set the Location drop-down menu (at the top of the window) to Automatic.
  3. Click the Advancd… Button. A new window will appear in front, select the TCP/IP tab the click Configure IPv4 pulldown menu and select Manually.
  4. Enter the network settings as shown below:
    • IP Address: your IP address, in the form 18.x.y.z
    • Subnet Mask:
    • Router: the IP address of the router in your subnet, in the form of 18.x.0.1, where x is the same as x in your IP address

  5. Select the Advanced button and the DNS tab. Enter the following DNS settings:
    • DNS Servers:
    • Search Domains:

  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Apply.
    Result: The completed window will look similar to the following.

Connect Via Ethernet and DHCP

  1. Follow steps 1 through 4 above.
  2. Set the Location drop-down menu (at the top of the window) to Automatic and the Configure menu to Using DHCP.

  3. Click Apply.
    Result: The IP Address and other network settings will be filled in automatically.
