Enabling or disabling tools in Canvas

A number of native Canvas tools and features, as well as LTI tools such as Zoom, Piazza, and Gradescope, can be enabled or disabled in the left side menu of a Canvas course site. This is done via the course navigation settings.

Canvas offers more details on changing course navigation in their documentation.

To enable a tool

  1. Click "Settings" in the left menu of your class site.
  2. Click the "Navigation" tab.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the tool you would like to enable. This will usually be near the bottom of the page.
  4. Drag the tool into the top list of the page to enable it in the left menu.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and click "Save" to save this change.
  6. Upon saving, the page should refresh, and tool should now be visible in the left menu.

To disable a tool

  1. Click "Settings" in the left menu of your class site.
  2. Click the "Navigation" tab.
  3. Find the tool you would like to disable in the top list of the page.
  4. Drag the tool from the top list of the page to the bottom list to hide it in the left menu.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and click "Save" to save this change.
  6. Upon saving, the page should refresh, and tool should now be removed from the left menu.
