Eduroam IP address ranges

What are the IP address ranges used by the eduroam wifi network at MIT?

Answer

The eduroam wifi at MIT gives different IP address ranges based on how you sign in:

  • If you sign into MIT's eduroam wifi with a MIT Kerberos account, you get an IP address in the 18.189.0.0/16 range, which is the same as the range used for MIT SECURE wifi.
  • If you sign into MIT's eduroam wifi as a visitor with the credentials from your other institution, you get a connection that behaves like MIT GUEST wifi. Your computer will have a private IP address, and the connection goes through a network address translation (NAT) gateway which gives you an external address in the range used by MIT GUEST: 192.54.222.0/24
