Downloaded SAPgui report on Mac - error when opening

Q: I downloaded a report from SAPgui on Macintosh, but when I try to open it, I get an error that the file may be corrupt.

Option 1 - Use the Text Import Wizard

  1. Open a new Excel document
  2. From the Data menu, select Get External Data >> Import Text File

  3. Select the report file that you downloaded from SAPgui.
  4. In the Text Import Wizard, select Delimited, then click Next
    select delimited
  5. Select Tab and click Next
    select tab
  6. Select General and click Finish
    select general
    Result: The file opens in Excel

Option 2 - Rename the file to .txt and open with Excel

  1. Rename the file to .txt. You may also name the file as .txt when downloading from SAPgui
  2. Right-click the file and select Open With >> Excel
    Result: The Text Import Wizard may open. If so, follow these steps:
  3. In the Text Import Wizard, select Delimited, then click Next
    select delimited
  4. Select Tab and click Next
    select tab
  5. Select General and click Finish
    select general
    Result: The file opens in Excel
