Stellar sites may be requested at any time. However, the intended semester may not always be available as an option. If not, choose the current semester available and then add a note in the comment section of the form letting us know the correct semester for the class site.
Most stellar sites are created instantaneously. If you receive a 'Mismatch Message' when requesting your site, the creation of your site may be slightly delayed. You should receive a confirmation e-mail within one business day of your request to let you know your site has been created.
Within 24 hours of the site creation, it will be listed in the course guide on http://stellar.mit.edu.
This pertains mostly to Stellar Project sites as the requestors are allowed to choose a short name for their site's URL.
Unfortunately, no. Site names or urls cannot be changed once they have been created. If you do not like the name of the URL for your site, you will need to submit a request for a new site and import content from the previous site.
An administrator, instructor or TA can change the title of their Stellar site. This will only change the title on the Stellar site's homepage. It will not change the URL. However, given a few hours, it will also update the title for the class in the course guide. To do this:
- Navigate to the Stellar site and log in.
- At the main page, you will see a red link for "Edit Homepage" underneath the title. Click on Edit Homepage.
- Enter the desired name in the box under "Class title".
- Scroll to the bottom of page and click Submit.

The Master Subject ID for a class. This is generally the course number used in the registrar's system and to register Stellar sites. For subjects that are cross-listed (e.g. 2.003/1.053), the MSID is only one of the numbers listed.
You@Stellar is a personalized page displaying class site information for Stellar users whether it's a course or project site. It shows all classes for a semester and associated Materials and Announcements for each of those classes. Note that after a semester, course sites are generally archived and will no longer appear within the You@Stellar link. Project sites are not generally archived and will remain.
Classes will appear under the You@Stellar link on the first day of the semester. If you need to access the course site before then, please navigate to it from the main page Stellar. Choose the course number and click on the tab for the semester you need. Then scroll through the list of classes for that course. Or, you may also navigate to an older course site by going to stellar.mit.edu and clicking "Class Sites All Terms" under the section for Site Archives. Click on the course number and search or scroll through the list to find the right semester for the class site.
