Campus DAS - The Distributed Antenna System

Campus DAS: What is it and how do I use it?

Improved cellular coverage and performance

A Distributed Antenna System, or DAS, is a network of antenna nodes connected to a common radio frequency source, bringing improved cellular coverage and capacity within buildings where DAS has been installed. MIT has partnered with AT&T to build a neutral-host DAS on the MIT campus.

As a nuetral-host, the DAS is open to all wireless carriers, but at this time AT&T and Verizon are the only two participants.

Where is DAS installed?

How do I use DAS?

If you currently have AT&T service, you will experience improved coverage automatically.

  • In buildings with Verizon LTE DAS coverage, HD Voice must be enabled in order to experience the improved cellular coverage and performance.
  • Members of the MIT community should consider enabling Wi-Fi Calling on compatible devices - particularly in buildings where the DAS has not yet been installed.

MIT buildings with independently operated DAS infrastructure

Some buildings have an independently operated DAS infrastructure. They are:

  • Building 32, basement through 4th floor – AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon
  • NW12 – AT&T, Verizon Wireless
  • NW35 – Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon
  • E14 – T-Mobile, Verizon
  • E15 – T-Mobile, Verizon
