ArcGIS software

ArcGIS is software for creating and editing GIS maps. The ArcGIS client software allows the user to connect to an MIT-maintained ArcGIS server.

Requirements

MIT has a license to distribute the software to MIT faculty, students and staff, as long as the client machine has an 18.x.x.x IP address. This means that if you are running the server from off-campus, you will need to install the MIT Virtual Private Network (VPN) client, available at:

VPN at MIT

Each time you start up your computer, you will need to launch the VPN software and connect to MIT before launching ArcGIS.

How to Get ArcGIS

The URL for ordering the software is here: http://ist.mit.edu/arcgis/10/win

How to Get Help

For assistance installing VPN or establishing a VPN connection, contact the Computing Help Desk.

For assistance installing or using ArcGIS, contact gishelp@mit.edu.
