Torrent

Definition

"Torrent" usually refers to a file downloadable via the BitTorrent client or other peer-to-peer file sharing clients implementing BitTorrent's peer-to-peer protocol. Although there is nothing intrinsically bad about torrents, BitTorrent, or peer-to-peer file sharing and they are commonly used to legally distribute software and media in an efficient manner, torrents are also sometimes used to illegally share files in violation of copyright restrictions or license agreements, much like other file sharing mechanisms. When popular media refer to torrents it is usually in this negative context.
